DESCRIPTION

How does the IRS conduct field examinations in both the Small Business/Self Employed (SB/SE) and Large Business and International (LBI) Divisions? James Pickett, a retired IRS Supervisory Internal Revenue Agent and 29-year veteran of the IRS will guide you through a thorough and in-depth analysis of the procedures and processes IRS uses to conduct field examinations of businesses and high-income individuals.

Learn about the examination procedures used by Revenue Agents from the SB/SE and LBI Divisions and how the procedures can vary between these IRS operating divisions. Successfully representing your client or business in an IRS examination requires understanding the Information Document Request (IDR) process, the procedures IRS uses can use to enforce these requests, and your role in this process. After the field examination work, the issuance by the IRS Revenue Agent of a Notice of Proposed Adjustment (NOPA) and the Revenue Agent Report (RAR) become the key documents driving and framing the resolution phase of the examination.

Learn how to thoroughly understand these documents and their relevance to the resolution of the case. Finally, the Revenue Agent doesn’t have the last word. Get some insightful perspective from James as he discusses the resolution of unagreed cases in both a managerial conference as well as in the IRS Appeals Division.
