DESCRIPTION

Did you know that all employers in the U.S. must have each new hire complete a Form I-9 on or before the employee's first day of work?

In 2018 we expect the current administration to quadruple the number of I-9 investigations for employers. Do you feel confident that you have an I-9 form completed for all of your employees? Are the forms are completed properly?

Form I-9 compliance has become a critical and timely issue for employers. Matthew Burr, HR generalist, provides a brief background on each section of these required forms, and breaks down key rules and requirements around them.

Immigration laws require employers to hire only individuals legally permitted to work in the U.S. These include U.S. citizens, non-citizen nationals, lawful permanent residents, and aliens authorized to work in the US. To comply with these laws, employers must verify the identity and employment authorization of each person hired. You do this with Form I-9, employment eligibility verification, which you complete and retain for each employee.

This training will focus on the importance of I-9 compliance for small businesses.  The training will introduce the I-9 forms, importance of filling out the forms correctly, retention process and proactive I-9 audits.  We will also discuss common mistakes and how to correct.
